Born in Punjab, India they emigrated to the UK shortly after their marriage and set up a small hosiery business in Widnes market. From there they moved into retail and wholesale. Since 1997 they switched their focus to philanthropy and founded the Loomba Foundation, in memory of Raj’s mother who was widowed at the age of 37 with seven children. The Loomba Foundation supports widows and their children in the developing world. In 2011. Raj was appointed to the House of Lords in recognition of his business and philanthropic work. They have three children and three grandchildren.
Rakesh Loomba

After graduating from the London School of Economics in 1992, Rakesh joined the family’s clothing business and took it in a new direction, pursuing a branded direct-to-consumer strategy. He led the group’s diversification into real estate since 2002. Rakesh is a Trustee of the Loomba Foundation, which has received over £3 million in donations from the Loomba Group. Rakesh is married to Samantha, and they have two daughters.
